World Cookbook Oscar 2018 goes to: Cyprus

Russian edition of “Cyprus – a culinary journey” honoured at the GOURMAND World Cookbook Awards 2018 in Yantai, China

Nicosia/Frankfurt-Main/Yantai, June 4th, 2018: The Russian edition of the 336-pages coffee table book "Cyprus – a culinary journey" won the “Best in the World Award 2018” in the category “translation”. This was the second time that Cyprus has been represented at the ceremony of the world competition for cookbooks in Yantai, China. More than 200 countries worldwide participated in these prestigious awards, the only international competition of the sector.

Tourism and food had been the focus of this year's event. And tourism was and is the engine of the economy of Cyprus.

About the book:
The 336-page travel cookbook is the high quality product of a close cooperation between Cypriot culinary expert Marilena Joannides and German star chef Franz Keller under publisher Marianne Salentin-Träger. The excellent book concept and design is the work of graphic designer Oliver Hick-Schulz. The treasures of the island were captured by the internationally acclaimed photographers Anja Jahn and Markus Bassler. The stories were written by food and travel journalist Rita Henss and the wine chapter was penned by sommelier Astrid Zieglmeier. Dr. Marina Cronauer is responsible for the Russian translation. Transfiction Team in Berlin carried out the English translation.

Previous Awards:
The English edition “Cyprus – a culinary journey” won: the “GOURMAND World Cookbook Award 2014” as best cookbook of Cyprus, further the “IACP Cookbook Award 2015” of the International Association of Culinary Professionals in Washington, as well as the “Best in the World Cookbook Award 2015” of Gourmand in China and has been honoured as “Best of the Best COOKBOOKS of the past 20 Years” in the category “Mediterranean World Cuisine” at Frankfurt bookfair 2016. The German edition of the book won the “ITB BookAward 2015” of the world biggest tourism fair ITB and
the “GAD Silver Medall 2015” of the Gastronomic Academy Germany in Frankfurt. The Russian edition followed with the “Gourmand World Cookbook Award 2017” and now, the “Best in the World Cookbook Award 2018” in Yantai.
